With 3.207 square kilometers, Vorpommern-Rügen is the fifth-largest district in the Federal Republic of Germany. 225.000 inhabitants live here contentedly. The island of Rügen with its famous chalk cliffs and the peninsula of Fischland-Darß-Zingst with its endless sand beaches form part of the Vorpommern-Rügen district.
